Ingredients
  

For the Bars
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened for a fluffy texture.
  • 1 large egg Can substitute with 1/4 cup of applesauce or 1 tablespoon of flaxmeal mixed with 2.5 tablespoons of water for an egg-free version.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Add more for thicker frosting.
  • 2 tablespoons milk Add more for a thinner frosting.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool.
Frosting
  1. For the frosting, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Frost the cooled bars and cut into squares to serve.

Notes

These bars are best served at room temperature. Add colorful sprinkles on top for a festive touch. Store in an airtight container; they keep at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for about a week.
