Method
Grilling Preparation
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Form the ground beef into thick patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
Cooking the Burgers
- Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
- In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to melt.
Making the Sauce
- While the burgers are cooking, in a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish to create the sauce.
Toasting Buns and Assembling
- Toast the burger buns on the grill for about 1 minute.
- Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked patties on the bottom halves of the buns, adding your sauce, and any optional toppings.
- Close with the top halves of the buns, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
For juicier burgers, don’t overwork the ground beef when forming the patties. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness; aim for 160°F for medium. Experiment with different cheeses or add spices to the beef for extra flavor. A toasted bun makes the burger taste even better.
