Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds Pork spare ribs Choose meaty ribs for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup Barbecue sauce Use your favorite or homemade; add honey for sweetness or hot sauce for a kick.
Spice Mix
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder Fresh garlic can be used if preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder Can substitute with finely chopped onion.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked paprika can give a deeper flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Taste is crucial, adjust according to preference.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red pepper flakes Optional for extra heat.
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar Optional for tang.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by removing the silver skin from the back of the ribs to help them become more tender.
  2. Mix garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper together. Rub the spice mix all over the ribs, coating them evenly.
  3. Lay the seasoned ribs in the bottom of the crockpot, cutting the ribs into smaller sections if they don’t fit snugly.
  4. Pour your barbecue sauce over the ribs, ensuring they are well covered.
Cooking
  1. Set your crockpot on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours. The low and slow method yields the most tender ribs.
  2. When the ribs are done cooking, brush on a bit more barbecue sauce and pop them under the broiler for a few minutes for a sticky, caramelized glaze.

Notes

Experiment with different barbecue sauces for unique flavors. Cooking on low yields the highest tenderness. Consider searing the ribs for added flavor.
