Ingredients

For the French Toast
  • 8 slices Bread Sturdy bread like brioche or challah is best; day-old bread is ideal.
  • 4 large Eggs Large or extra-large eggs can be used.
  • 1 cup Milk Whole milk is preferred but any milk can be used.
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract Pure vanilla is best, imitation works in a pinch.
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon Adjust based on your taste preference.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances overall flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Butter For cooking; adjust as needed.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined and creamy.
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Cooking
  1. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side.
  2. Add butter to the skillet, and once melted and bubbly, place the soaked bread slices in the skillet.
  3. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Continue this process until all your bread is cooked, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
Serving
  1. Transfer the French toast to a plate and top with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Use stale bread for better absorption of the egg mixture. Adjust sweetness to preference; consider adding sugar to the egg mixture or serving with honey or syrup. Serve with fresh fruits for a refreshing contrast.
